Privacy policy
Pausemark helps you manage screen time by using micro-journaling as a moment to reflect before using your phone. Your journal entries, weekly notes, preferences, and writing history are stored on your device. Pausemark does not require an account and does not operate a server that receives your journal text.
Information handled by the app
- Journal content and related writing statistics are stored locally on your device.
- Your display name and reminder preferences are stored locally on your device.
- If you enable reminders, your device schedules local notifications at the times you choose.
- On supported Apple devices, if you grant Screen Time access, Pausemark stores a selection provided by Apple so it can lock only the applications or categories you chose. Pausemark cannot see which apps or categories they are, and cannot see how long you spend in them. Pausemark does not receive your browsing content, messages, or passwords.
- If you purchase Pausemark Pro, Apple processes the transaction through StoreKit. Pausemark stores the selected product identifier, entitlement status, and optional expiration timestamp locally so premium features can remain available. Pausemark does not receive or store your payment-card details.
Product analytics
Pausemark collects anonymous product-analytics events about how the app is used — such as how often a screen is viewed and which features are used most. These events help us understand how the app behaves in the wild and where to improve it.
- Collected data: event name, timestamp, app version, anonymous device identifier, and operating system version.
- Journal text is never included in analytics events. The app is designed so that note content, writing statistics derived from it, and any text you type into the journal are excluded from the analytics payload.
- Events are transmitted to and processed by a third-party analytics provider acting as a data processor on Pausemark's behalf, on infrastructure located in the United States.
- Pausemark does not link the anonymous identifier to your name, Apple Account, or device serial number.
- Session replay and heatmaps are disabled — only the specific events listed above are sent.
- You can disable analytics collection at any time from Settings → Privacy in the Pausemark app.
This website
This website collects anonymous, cookieless usage statistics so we can see which pages people read and how they find us. It is separate from the app: nothing here has access to your journal, and visiting the site does not create an account or identify you.
- Collected data: page visited, referring site, any campaign parameters in the link you followed, approximate country, and general browser and device type.
- No cookies are set. A temporary anonymous identifier is held in your browser's session storage so that several pages read in one visit are counted once, and it is discarded when you close the tab. Nothing identifies you across visits.
- One interaction is recorded deliberately: following a link from this site to the App Store. Nothing else on the page is captured automatically.
- Session replay and heatmaps are disabled here too.
- These statistics are processed by the same third-party analytics provider as the app, acting as a data processor on Pausemark's behalf, on infrastructure located in the United States.
- Setting your browser's Do Not Track or an ad/tracker blocker will prevent this collection, and the site works normally without it.
Feedback you send us
If you choose to send feedback or report a bug through the in-app feedback form, Pausemark receives the message you type, your app version and operating system version, and an optional email address if you provide one. Your IP address is used to infer an approximate country for aggregate geographic statistics. The raw IP address is not stored; the approximate country may be stored for those aggregate statistics.
- Feedback messages are stored in a Cloudflare D1 database so we can review and respond to them.
- Providing an email address is entirely optional and used only to reply to your message.
- Feedback is not linked to your journal content, which never leaves the device.
How information is used
The locally stored information is used to display your journal, calculate writing history and streaks, schedule reminders, and operate the optional Screen Time experience. Pausemark does not sell personal information or use journal text for advertising.
Sharing and third parties
Pausemark does not transmit journal text to Pausemark-operated servers. Apple provides operating-system services for local notifications, Screen Time controls, app distribution, and StoreKit purchases. Apple processes information used by those services under its own privacy terms.
Product analytics events are transmitted to a third-party analytics provider and processed on infrastructure in the United States. Optional feedback is stored in Cloudflare D1 so we can review and respond to it.
Depending on your device and Apple backup settings, encrypted iCloud or computer backups may include Pausemark's local app data. Those backups are controlled through your Apple device and account settings; Pausemark does not operate or access them.
Retention and deletion
Your Pausemark data remains on your device until you uninstall the app or the operating system removes app data. Deleting Pausemark from your iPhone removes your journal entries, weekly notes, preferences, reminders, and Screen Time configuration. You can export a portable JSON copy from Settings first if you want to keep a backup. Export files are temporary inside Pausemark and are removed after the system share sheet closes; copies you save or send are controlled by the destination you choose.
Security
Pausemark relies on the security protections of your device and operating system. Protect access to the device with a passcode, biometric lock, and current operating-system updates. No storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.
Children
Pausemark is not directed to children under the minimum digital-consent age in their country. Pausemark does not knowingly collect journal content from children through a Pausemark-operated server.
